Love Aid Phuket began with the idea of holding a beachside fundraising concert on 2nd April to raise money for disaster victims in Japan. A sudden change in weather conditions forced organizers to postpone the event until a later date can be set.
However, the fundraising activities continue in Phuket, with many artists and professionals in Phuket dedicating time and resources to the cause.
Core organizers Kata Group Resorts, Centara Grand Beach resort and several other major hotels in Phuket have pledged their full support for the “Love Aid Phuket” fund-raising event, donating time and resources 100% free of charge.
Rotary Club committee chairman Brad Kenny said, “funds generated from the Love Aid Phuket fund raiser will be funnelled through the Rotary Club of Patong Beach to Rotary International Clubs in Japan that are already active in the devastated areas”.
After one of the most powerful earthquakes ever recorded caused a devastating tsunami and wiped out whole communities in northern Japan, thousands of Japanese are still without basic essentials such as food, water, shelter or electricity.
The situation exacerbated by the nuclear emergency means Japan will need ongoing support from around the world for quite some time
“All Rotary Clubs are 100% volunteers which means 100% of any donation through Love Aid Phuket will go direct to disaster victims in Japan,” said Mr Kenny.
